Teiakonekwenhsatsikhetare wampum belt
The Wampum Belt is going to be moving shortly. It is presently located in Sagamok Anishnawbek (via Ontario) and will be moving by water to Garden River, which is located 5 minutes from Sault Ste. The Teiakonekwenhsatsikhetare Wampum Belt Teiakonekwenhsatsikhetare means 'Our blood is too sweet' and refers to the staggering statistics on the rate of type 2 diabetes in Onkwehonwe people. Elder Joe Jacobs had a dream more than a decade ago and created a wampum belt as a result of his vision. His goal is to walk, ride a bike, canoe across 'Indian Country' while promoting the message of prevention of type 2 diabetes. The belt has travelled all over Quebec and has made it to Ontario. It began in Kahnawake travelled to Akwesasne and has since made it to other native territories.
