The Wampum Belt is going to be moving shortly. It is presently located in Sagamok Anishnawbek (via Ontario) and will be moving by water to Garden River, which is located 5 minutes from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The Teiakonekwenhsatsikhetare Wampum Belt

Teiakonekwenhsatsikhetare means 'Our blood is too sweet' and refers to the staggering statistics on the rate of type 2 diabetes in Onkwehonwe people.

Elder Joe Jacobs had a dream more than a decade ago and created a wampum belt as a result of his vision. His goal is to walk, ride a bike, canoe across 'Indian Country' while promoting the message of prevention of type 2 diabetes.

The belt has travelled all over Quebec and has made it to Ontario. It began in Kahnawake travelled to Akwesasne and has since made it to other native territories.
